PLC (programmable logic controller)

A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is a key Mechatronic component in industrial automation. Simply put, a PLC is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, such as adjustable house lighting, traffic lights, amusement park rides or the control of machinery on factory assembly lines. The automotive industry is one of the largest users of PLCs.

Digital controls are an integral part of our everyday lives. The difference between other control modules compared to a PLC is that a PLC is programmable and each control task can be customized. Unlike general-purpose computers, a PLC is designed for multiple inputs and output arrangements, extended temperature ranges, immunity to electrical noise, and resistance to vibration and impact. Modern control systems today also have the ability to issue digital or analog values and can communicate with any peripherals such as wireless networks, mobile networks, robotics, computers, etc.
